Used Locks

I have a collection of used locks in usable condition.  If you want a good lock but also want to save some money and don’t mind a few scratches or some paint then look no further.  Also for sale: parts that break often.  I acquire these either through fire sales from other locksmiths or when customers don’t want these locks.  I always ask.  I also inform them that the locks might be sold on Craigslist for a few dollars.  My inventory for giveaway locks to the poor is now beyond capacity so I am not accepting donations for the time being unless you want to donate the locks to my for profit sales.

Also ask about buying just the cylinder.  You can “rekey” your house temporarily quickly easily and cheaply by just switching out the cylinder for one day, usually with nothing more than a screwdriver.  For even easier temporary lock changes read about SFIC and LFIC locks here.  Then change it back when whoever needed to get in has done their work!

Strikes

Specify finish, anything besides 626 or 605 may be a little more:

Your deadbolt needs more than a thin strikeplate with some 1/2″ long woodscrews securing it to the doorframe.  If somebody my size or larger kicks your door without a proper strike plate the door and door frame might topple over!  Your doorframe may only be connected to the rest of your house with two screws.  If your deadbolt’s strike plate has screws 3″ or longer then your door frame is connected to the rest of the structure of your house in one more way.
