People are always asking me how much it will be to install an electronic keypad lock on their door. Sometimes they have doors for which manufacturers in North America don’t design their locks, including mortise locks and multipoint locks. It is interesting when a solution for these two comes up.
Thank goodness for people who want to unlock their doors who also have money and the time to find these products. It turns out that Accurate Hardware makes an electronic mortise lock that doesn’t require a keypad, it is wireless standard but does offer a keypad. It costs $5000.
The best thing about this lock is that you can’t tell it is electronic from the outside or even the inside. The only hint that it is electronic is that the armor plate on the side of the door is 14″ long, about 6″ longer than normal for a mortise lock. This is great for people who need wireless functionality but can’t upset the HOA.
It is always nice to pull out a mortiser for one of these jobs. I have two, today I used the Souber mortiser. It wobbles a little more than the other one but is easier to pack in and out. Following is a before and after. Notice the plywood on the door, there was a remodeling company that got their grubby mitts on this lock before me.
I made the soundtrack dual purpose, it may also be used for modeling/catwalk purposes soon!
